Radar Deployment Module

Tornado Alley Doppler Matrix v4

Supercell thunderstorm rotating over open country plains

Overview & Operational Capabilities

The Tornado Alley Doppler Matrix v4 provides real-time dual-polarization beam synthesis, integrating reflectivity factor (Z), differential reflectivity (ZDR), and cross-correlation coefficient (CC) to identify tornado debris spikes (TDS) and intense mesocyclonic shear vectors instantly.

Key Telemetry Features

  • 0.5-degree Radial Velocity Processing: Real-time gate-to-gate shear calculation to spot tornado vortex signatures (TVS) prior to ground contact.
  • Specific Differential Phase (KDP) Tracking: Tracks heavy core precipitation zones, giant hail cores, and cold forward-flank downdraft boundaries (FFD).
  • Mobile Radar Probe Synchronization: Direct cellular and satellite uplink with field vehicles deployed across Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Texas.

Field Chasing Deployment Directives

When operating in high-CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) environments exceeding 3,500 J/kg, maintaining position relative to the rear-flank downdraft (RFD) notch is critical. The Doppler Matrix v4 auto-calculates escape route vectors based on storm motion vectors and road network elevation models.
